Course Frequency

Many Bioscience courses are offered each semester, but some options that fulfill degree requirements are offered on a fall- or spring-only basis. Other options may not be taught regularly. 

The following chart is meant to be used as a guide for academic planning only and is not a guarantee of future course offerings. Students are encouraged to be in regular contact with their assigned Biosciences advisor about their degree progress. Please check UT Course Schedules for course availability.

Course Titles + Descriptions

Biosciences degrees are designed to give you the opportunity to take interesting and unique courses during your time at UT! It can be difficult to figure out what those courses are or how they fit in your long-term plan.

These lists include upper-division Biology, Biochemistry, and Neuroscience courses for you to use as references as you create a four-year plan with the help of your advisor.

**Not all degree requirements are included in these course titles and descriptions lists. Full Degree Checklists can be found here. Always refer to your Interactive Degree Audit (IDA) and re-run your audit after registration to make sure classes are counting where you expect them to.**

Fall 2024 Registration Updates

To better reflect the diversity of Biology coursework offered at UT Austin, most upper-division Biology courses will be listed under the fields of Integrative Biology (INB) or Molecular Biosciences (MBS) rather than Biology (BIO) beginning with the Fall 2024 course schedule.

• The majority of lower-division BIO courses and Genetics (BIO 325 and BIO 315H/325H) will not be affected by this change.
• BCH and NEU course numbers will remain the same.
• Summer 2024 course numbers will remain unchanged.

Students and advisors should look for the new INB and MBS course numbers when planning for the Fall 2024 semester and beyond.

Degree Checklists + Sample 4-Year Plans

Find official CNS degree checklists and four-year plans here on the college website. The degree checklists and sample plans below have been updated to reflect new upper-division Biology courses under the fields of Integrative Biology (INB) or Molecular Biosciences (MBS) rather than Biology (BIO) beginning with the Fall 2024 course schedule.

Students completing their degrees in the 16-18 catalog by the end of the Summer 2024 semester should check in with their assigned Biosciences advisor about remaining degree requirements for graduation.

Always refer to your Interactive Degree Audit (IDA) and re-run your audit after registration to make sure classes are counting where you expect them to. The following documents are to be used as a guide. Students should make and update their long-term plans with the assistance of their Biosciences advisor.
